Types Of Magical Effects:
Magical Effects: All magicians it would seem, regardless of their magical style or type of show - from card magic to big stage illusions - create magical effects that fall within certain categories. Clearly not every act will feature all of these categories and some magicians may specialize in only one or two but be so brilliant at their particular specialty that we can watch them perform for hours! Many of these categories overlap so when you consider an illusion it may fall into more than one category. Also there are more and more categories popping up over time as great universal mysteries unfold. These categores are observable truths and and related to the reader as this author understands them .
Production
This is making things or persons appear “out of thin air” or multiply. Or “Creating a thing from scratch.” Producing doves is a great example. Or silks, or flowers or a magic wand! Vanishes
This is making things or persons disappear “into thin air.” The assistant steps into to box and vanishes! Transportation: A person or thing is seems to travel instantly (and invisibly) from one loaction to another. Beam me up Scotty!
Transpositions
This is making things switch places. I put the 8 of Diamonds in this card box and the 9 of Clubs in that card box but zowie! Look again!
Transformations
This is turning a thing into something else. The egg into a silk. or silk into milk! Blank paper into cash! Penetrations
This is the act of one solid going through another. A great example of this is the linking rings! Metal through metal! Or the classic cups and balls. The ball travels through the bottom of the cup to the top of the table!
Restorations
Returning a thing to its original condition after it has been damaged torn, or destroyed. A great example is the famous torn and restored newspaper. Animation
Making a thing move as if it were alive. You know, like...ZOMBIES!!! Levitation
Making a person or thing float, fly and defy gravity. A fantastic effect. The floating assistant or the flying Mr. Copperfield! Attraction
It can be a useful ‘explanation’ for how the Aces gravitate toward eachother in a fairly shuffled deck of playing cards. Voodoo?!?!?
What happens to one thing somehow affects another thing. Voodoo? Be careful with those pins!
Invulnerability
Being unharmed after the blade falls or after the pencils penetrate the arm. Bulletproof. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME! Escapes Seemingly impossible escapes from restraints like a strait jacket, hand cuffs, water tank, etc.
Mind Control Mentally influencing another to act in accordance with my will? Telekinesis? Pyrokenesis? Major overlap with levitation and other categories as we believe that most magic is generated in the mind! Mind Reading
The mind is a receiver. I can read your mind. Does that make you uncomfortable?
Thought Transmission
Sending a message using the mind. Overlap with mind control.
Predictions
Fortune telling! Foretelling the future. Great with Tarot Cards and "You will choose envelope # 3 effects"
Time Travel! What can I tell you that I already told you in 10 years from now?
